News and Update 1 June 2024

The past few weeks the summers in Pakistan has reached its peak with temperatures rising up to average 45 degrees Celsius every day. Students had been hydrating and keeping themselves cool using water and avoiding the midday sun.

The use of water provoked to learn and research about the importance of water in our daily life and how life on earth completely depends on the water. They learnt about plants and other organism and how the human body consists of mostly water. They were also learning about how water in the seas come from the glaciers and then evaporates and turns into rain.

Students learned about how the irrigation system in Pakistan works and how the water from the rivers can be diverted in certain ways to water the crops which subsequently leads to the population being fed. One thing that really surprised many students was the fact that water can be used to produce electricity and it is a renewable source therefore we could keep making electricity and never really run out of the original source which is water in this case. This really prompted the thought amongst the students that why the government does not provide free and always running electricity if we have rivers which further lead to the learning about dams etc. This activity really was an opportunity for students to think of problems, solutions and the factors that influence both.

They also went on to find how seas and oceans do not contain water clean enough to be consumed by humans and many other creatures and how there is a global lack and need for clean water. Before this they thought that it was only Pakistan that did not have a good source of clean water. Students learned about the sustainable ways of utilizing water.

In the end, the research lead to a whole another level of learning and finding new facts.
